City to Fully Close Echo Canyon Trail Sept. 2–18 for Automatic Gate Installation

Echo CanyonCamelback Mountain

Phoenix Parks and Recreation will close Echo Canyon Trail entirely from September 2–18, 2026, to install new automatic gates and repair safety cables — the same automated-gate system GOOD|GOAT has been tracking amid its case over the trailhead's unannounced 4:30 AM to 5:00 AM hours change.

Phoenix Parks and Recreation has announced that Echo Canyon Trail on Camelback Mountain will close completely from September 2 through September 18, 2026, while crews install new automatic gates and repair safety cables along the trail.

The closure comes amid a broader rollout of electronic signage, cameras, and automated gates at Camelback Mountain and other Phoenix trailheads. Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Jarod Rogers recently told the City's Public Safety and Justice Subcommittee that automated gates allow scheduled closures, which he said “increases park ranger availability at other areas that are not affected by trail closures.”

GOOD|GOAT is tracking this closure alongside its ongoing case over Echo Canyon's unannounced shift from a 4:30 AM to 5:00 AM opening time. Full background is available at /cases/echo-canyon-hours.
